Legendary Amazons (2011) Yang Family’s Battle Through the Sky

In addition to being financed by a mainland company and filmed in China, Legendary Amazons 杨门女将之军令如山 may have been created in Hong Kong a quarter of a century or more ago. It’s basically a remake of Shaw Brothers’ The 14 Amazons 十四女英豪 (1972) – and is also reminiscent of the studio’s earlier style in its brief narration introducing each of the female warriors – the first film in A decade-long turn by veteran songwriter-actor-director-producer Chen Xunqi 陈勋奇 [Frankie Chan] is hilarious and silly in the right spirit. But on the level of meaningful filmmaking it is a hopelessly outdated and slap-in-the-face museum piece.
